New trams hit the streets

9 February 2010

Hemisphere has designed the new look for a fleet of 32 new trams that are currently being put into service on the Manchester Metrolink tram system.

The trams are just one aspect of a £900 million investment programme that will see the city's flagship light rail system more than double in size between now and 2013. The trams are one of the main implementations of the new Metrolink identity scheme that is being implemented across signage and wayfinding, uniforms, customer information and all public-facing aspects of the system.

The trams themselves are being built by Bombardier in Vienna, Austria and are being delivered at the rate of approximately one a week to Metrolink's Manchester depot where they are being subject to rigorous testing before being put into service.
