DBA award for Manchester Central rebrand

23 August 2009

The Design Effectiveness Awards are highly prized because they are judged on how effective design has been in delivering business results for the client, as well as the creativity of the design solution itself.

Commercial data is the key judging criteria and you have to provide tangible proof of the outcomes your design has delivered in order to be successful.

Manchester Central is the new (Hemisphere devised) name for Manchester’s main conference venues, previously known as GMEX and MICC. The rebrand was launched in 2007 in order to create a more coherent proposition to the international convention market, helping to deliver greater economic impact for the city and raising its profile as a business tourism destination.

The renaming and rebranding solution has achieved significant increases in both income and economic impact for Manchester Central and has helped it win a number of high profile national and international events, despite growing competition and a declining market.  It has also led to the venue winning a number of important industry awards and helped Manchester achieve 3rd place in the European conference city rankings in 2008.

Last year, Hemisphere won a bronze DBA Design Effectiveness award in the Consumer Print category for our work on Prime, a magazine we created for the North West Development Agency.  This time round we're hoping to ‘move up the metals’ when the awards are announced at this year's awards ceremony, which is being held on 22nd October in London.
